Gemma Chambers
Level 2 - Brookvale Village Hall

Hi all, I’m a home-carer, mum to Ryan and now loopy hooper :)

When did you start hoopdancing? & Why did you think it is a good idea?

I started Hoop dancing  in November 2009 because it looked awesome.  I’d never seen hooping  this way before. It sucked me in right away!

Did you find the beginning easy? Did you ever think you would get to hoopdance as well as you do now?

I wouldn't say it was easy. I picked moves up quick,  it was building the stamina to keep the hoop up for certain tricks.

Has hoopdance changed anything in your life?

I most definitely have toned up without a doubt, I’ve noticed myself my clothes are loser since starting hoopdance and also my friends and family noticed it. Its great fun to everyone I come into contact with, I have them thinking about having  a go or hooping before I leave best thing about it every one can do it!!

Do you often get frustrated when things do not work with the hoop? How do you get over that frustration? What motivates you to keep trying?

Hell yeah! I get frustrated lost count of the amount of times I argued with my hoop because it wont go the way I want or straighten up, but when I do get a trick or it goes how I want it I get this massive rush of achievement it’s that feeling that keeps me picking my hoop up and getting a few more bruises till I perfect the skill that I’m happy with.

How much time do you spend hooping?

Every day between 2-3 hours roughly, sometimes less if I’m really busy. I keep a hoop in my car so if I have a break at work I just hoop the time away.

Have you achieved any of your goals that you had before signing up for the first class? Did you have any expectations?

I never really had any to begin with to be honest only to learn something new and enjoy the process.

Have you got any favourite moves or any that you particularly dislike? Any really really frustrating ones?

I love the vortex that was the trick that sucked me in, telling myself I have to learn this! Not any that I dislike. I find shoulder hooping uncomfortable at the moment, just my body is not used to moving like it.

Would you recommend hoopdance to others? What is your advice to those who are just at the beginning of their hoopdance experience?

PRACTISE! PRACTISE! PRACTISE!  seriously the more you put in the more you get out and you will start to see results like I have only in a few months, and don’t care about where you hoop. Find a nice place and just hoop, don’t care what people think!!    Hugs to you all!  xxxx

My comments: I am not at all surprised that Gemma got this far. She seemed to be picking up the tricks ever so quickly from the beginning & she was hooked from the first second. Her energy is captivating. She knows what hard work & sacrifice is & does not give up ever ever ever. Gemma is a tough hardcore hooper & will be very successful if she chooses to do this for a living.
